2 day trip to Samana
I'll tell you about a 2-day trip to the Samana Peninsula. Due to the fact that whales can be observed in the ocean until March 15, this route is now very interesting for many tourists.
And so, we move out of Punta Cana to the fishing village of Bayahibe, from where we sail to about. Saona (one way on a large catamaran, the other way on a large speedboat accommodating 25 passengers). On the island you swim, sunbathe, take pictures, admire nature (lunch and drinks are included in the cost of a trip to the island). While traveling by speedboat, on the high seas, in a shallow, natural lagoon, there will be a stop during which you can dive, get starfish, take pictures with them. Return to solid ground. Sometimes it's interesting to watch when heavily "admiring" tourists are taken out of the boats by the arms, or it happens that they are taken out : ).
I hope this is not in our case, because further our path leads to the village of artists Altos de Chavon, which is located in the village of millionaires Casa de Campo. In Altos de Chavon, you will wander through the quiet Spanish streets stylized as the Middle Ages, visit the current amphitheater, in which world pop stars perform, see the current chapel where Michael Jackson married Lisa Presley, visit the amber and larimar museum, an archaeological museum dedicated to one of the four Indian tribes that inhabited this island, the most numerous - the Taino Indians. This museum has the most complete collection of exhibits. And what an amazing view from Altos de Chavon. Here you will also see the iguero tree, with huge fruits from which maracas are made, you will see how the papaya grows. Here you will make a huge number of beautiful photos. Further, our path lies in Santo Domingo.
By the way, along the way, in La Romana or Santo Domingo, visit a large supermarket where you can buy inexpensive rum, coffee and cigars. You can spend the night in a small, cozy hotel in the city center, not far from the embankment. The next day, our path lies on the Samana Peninsula. Let me explain that the road to Samana starts from Santo Domingo. Along the way we will come across what I call a palm graveyard, dried palm plantations. There is also a palm oil factory. Initially, our path lies through the mountains to Las Galeras, in the mountains it will be possible to take photos of the views that open up to the bay of Samana and, on the other hand, to the Atlantic. Next, we move to the ranch, from where horseback riding excursions to the El Limon waterfall depart. On the way to the waterfall, through the thickets, your guides will show you everything that grows here in the wild: bananas, pineapples, oranges, grapefruits, coffee, cocoa, etc.
At the waterfall you can not only take pictures, but also swim. If you swim under the jets of falling water, you will get an excellent massage. The guides will show the grottoes. The next place to visit will be the town of Samana, from where we sail on a boat to look for whales. When large cruise ships do not enter the bay, whales can be found in the bay, but most often they are in the open ocean. Often the waves are large, pregnant and having a fear of the water element, this excursion is not suitable, it is better to sit, walk along the coast, wander along the pedestrian bridges that go into the ocean. Boats come close enough to the whales, sometimes up to 10 meters, which is in principle prohibited by law, but here you understand, Dominican Republic ....The spectacle is very beautiful, large whales swimming nearby, you can often see cubs. Jumping, waving its tail when the whale goes into the depths causes delight and a storm of applause from all boats. Like in a circus : ).
Next, we sail to about. Cayo Levantado, where the commercial for Bacardi rum was filmed, where you can relax, swim, snorkel, there are secluded places where you can find large shells, stars. Looked? Have you admired? Have you been photographed? We return home to Punta Cana. The path is not close - 6.5 hours. From such a trip, interesting, rich, only good impressions remain!
