Oktoberfest 2017
The holiday was first held when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Teresa, after whom the meadow where the festival will take place was named. This happened in October 1810. The event became an annual event, followed by the name Oktoberfest. Gradually, the dates have moved to a warmer and sunnier September, but the two-week festival traditionally captures the first weekend of October.
In 200 years, the holiday was celebrated only a few times and only for very good reasons: because of the cholera epidemic, the Prussian-Austrian and Franco-Prussian Wars, the First and Second World Wars and hyperinflation in Germany in 1923-1924. For a long time Oktoberfest was event by residents of Bavaria and nearby areas of Germany. It was only in 1960 that tourists from all over the world began to come to it, and now it is one of the most visited festivals in the world by tourists and the largest folk festival.
