The city is located in the northwestern part of the Thuringian Forest and owes its existence to the Wartburg fortress and castle. The castle is located two kilometers from the center of Eisenach. We didn't plan to go to the castle right away. Well, we don't really like them. And the previous experience of excursions took its toll. In general, even at home, we decided that we would not go. The weather was great, the town charming, and we had a great time in Eisenach in the spring. They say that in summer the town is immersed in greenery. I have no doubts, because in summer the green hills approach directly to the city. Well, early spring almost does not imply greenery. In addition to the Wartburg castle, the city has a sufficient number of interesting places. Previously, the town was considered the automobile capital of the GDR. The Automotive Museum is still there. It features exhibits from little Dixies to Wartburg models. The house of Martin Luther is interesting (I ask you not to confuse the father of the reformation with the American singer and public figure Martin Luther King). He lived in this house when he was in school. For some time he lived in the Wartburg castle, during the Reformation. . The 600-year-old house houses the J. S. Bach Museum. It was in this house that Bach was born in 1685. The atmosphere of a burgher dwelling is recreated in the house, and the fireplace in the kitchen existed at the time of the composer's birth. In the premises of the former barn and households. The building houses a concert hall. Works by J. S. Bach are performed here several times a day. One of the concerts starts at 14.00. The concert is included in the ticket price for the exposition. Next to the house is a monument to Bach, almost life-size. Tour buses stop in a small square nearby. Since the restaurant of the same name was closed, we went to a nearby pizzeria. A very friendly Italian, excellent pizza and wine (14 euros for two) and we went for a walk around the city. Then there was a guided tour of the same objects, but we liked walking more. As always in Germany, we could not resist a little shopping. In the center of the city is the Market Square, surrounded by pretty houses. The houses are much more modest than in other cities. City palace with an interesting turret. There are mainly various exhibitions. Church of St. . Nicholas and the Church of St. George in which J. S. Bach was baptized in the 17th century. Trays with flowers and seedlings on the square. The fountain with the golden statue of St. George was not yet in operation, but the statue itself against the blue sky was magnificent. The second time we walked along the route with a guide. We sat in the cafe a little more, looked at the unhurried life of the inhabitants. As always in a small German town, I wanted to stay forever! What always stops us is that neither I nor my companion understand German at all : )! There are very few half-timbered houses in the city, and those that are, for the most part, are simply stylized (painted) like half-timbered houses. Due to the location and clean air, as the guide said, recently rich pensioners and not only from Germany began to settle here. A lot of older ladies in expensive cars. Maybe someone will also want to settle : ).
