lake constance
What can you see interesting on Lake Constance? To begin with, I will say that it belongs to 3 countries: Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We decided to go around it in the same way as Lake Garda, but this can not be done, it is completely different, from the side of Switzerland it is completely uninteresting and you will not always drive along the coast.
So interesting places:
The Principality of Liechtenstein, like other tourists, did not cause much enthusiasm. There is nothing particularly interesting there, a couple of museums, Vaduz Castle is not visited, since it is inhabited, you can only see it from the outside. Walk through the pedestrian zone, marvel at the high prices...
The city of Bregenz (Austria), located right on the lake, liked the old town, but the main thing that interested us there was the cable car to the mountains, Pfä nderbahn. The price is 11.20 euros per person, this includes the ascent and descent.
After parking the car and taking a ticket, you need to bring it to the cash desk, they will put a stamp there, parking is free for 3 hours. Going upstairs, you can take a walk around the small zoo, so to speak, and just through the valleys and mountains, there is also an eagle park, the entrance is paid, because they give a performance with these birds. The observation decks offer a breathtaking view of the lake and the city of Bregenz. Despite the fact that we were there on a cloudy day, we were very, very pleased.
The town of Lindau (Germany), where we booked a hotel, struck us with its greenery and flowers. The old part of the city is located on a small island, the entrance to which is through the bridge, there is also a berth for all kinds of boats with all kinds of routes, both along and across the lake. The harbor is considered one of the most beautiful, the entrance to it seems to be through the gate: on one side there is a 33-meter tower, and on the other - a monument with a Bavarian lion.
It is very nice to walk there in the evening!
Now about the hotel: Hotel Ebnet Garni 3 * in Lindau chose in advance in a quiet, peaceful place, so that there was an opportunity to relax after daytime excursions and trips. We liked the hotel very much, we took a room on the 2nd floor, with a balcony overlooking the garden with flowers. Very nice hostess, delicious breakfast... I recommend.
We went to the city of Konstanz and the islands of Mainau and Reichenau along the Swiss side, it was possible not to go there, nothing attractive. It is especially close to the lake, or even you can’t drive at all, because either there is a spit that cuts deep into the lake, or a continuous forest near the shore, or there are villas with an adjacent territory where entry is prohibited, or something else. In Konstanz you can see the old town, but we were most interested in the island of Mainau. Entrance costs 16.90 euros per person, parking 4.00 euros for the whole day. Wonderful island, only 1.
1 km long and 640 m wide, which I especially liked: a pavilion with butterflies and orchids. If there were fewer people there, it would be quite wonderful. The Deutschordensschloss castle, where the Bernadotte count family lives, didn’t really like the Italian rose garden, but the rather long alley of tall rose bushes with various aromas is something indescribable, I didn’t want to leave from there ...then a staircase of flowers, figurines from flowers, the promenade, the alley with hydrangeas... everything is very, very beautiful, you should definitely visit this flower island. It can also be reached by boat from the side of the lake.
The island of Reichenau is not at all a large island, elongated in length, an island of gardeners and vegetable growers. A beautiful place is the entrance alley to the island, which connects it with the "mainland". There are several famous churches there, as well as Mü nster St. Maria and Markus. If there is no extra time, this island can not be visited, if only for the sake of walking.
