In August 2006 we traveled to the Czech Republic by train. If there is no fear of the plane, then of course it is better to fly. 33 hours by train from Moscow to Prague - very boring. You can’t get off at the stations - transit. Although there is nowhere to go out - a continuous forest, cities, in my opinion, did not pass at all. In Brest, we stood for 2.5 hours and you can only go to the toilet, though it's fun to watch how the wheels are changed - in Europe, a narrow gauge railway. You also need to take into account that the compartment is triple, 3 shelves one above the other, very crowded. And the last of the 10 days of the tour in the Czech Republic is only 6. But Prague itself (and the Czech Republic in general) is magnificent. Prague is a very beautiful city, it is pleasant to walk around it and very pleasant shopping, even for Muscovites, not to mention we Izhevsk residents.
Hotel Brno, for three stars, just class! The main plus is 10 minutes (even less) from the center (meeting point for all excursions). Two stops on the metro, but the metro is not like in Moscow, there are few people, it is quiet, calm, the trains are the most modern. The hotel is located at the very entrance to the subway. Breakfast is not very varied (buffet) - yogurt, cookies, sweets, sausage (3 varieties), tea, coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, pastries - that's probably all. But everything is fresh, satisfying, we are not fans of breakfast - we were full. The room has a shower, TV, bed (for two), sofa. The only negative - the linen was not changed for 6 days, but the room was cleaned daily.
As for excursions Be sure to visit the castle Detenice - a castle, a tavern, a brewery and a museum in one bottle. A wonderful evening in a medieval tavern with the Inquisition, dancers, knights and robbers is impressive. As for the rest of the castles, they are all very similar and you get tired of them on the 3rd day. I advise you to choose private castles - they are more impressive. I liked Czech Stenberg more.

If Karlovy Vary is not among the free tours, it’s better not to pay, take a regular bus there, it costs about 200 kroons (220 rubles), and you can walk along the street completely free, there’s nothing else to see, you can hear the history of the sources by sitting down to any Russian excursion, there are 20 of them at the same time.
Singing fountains are also better to visit by yourself (180 CZK) and 40 minutes by metro and tram from the center. The castle with the notorious ghost of the Black Lady is complete nonsense, we did not go, but those who went there really cherished the time spent.
And lastly, it is better to make purchases at the end metro stations, where the best shopping centers are. We liked Zilichin (terminal station of the yellow line) the most. Be sure to visit the beer house - three blocks from Wenceslas Square - you won't regret it!
