The guests of the island get the first impression of the Republic of Cyprus without leaving the plane. Or rather, still in flight, during landing. Larnaca Airport is located along the sea, right on the beach. Therefore, the complete feeling that the plane is landing on the water.

We arrived on September 10th. And on September 9, there was a holiday on the island - it rained! Considering that the sun in Cyprus burns 340 days a year (they have +18 in January! ), then you can understand the joy of absolutely all the inhabitants of the island. The second bright impression - plants. Here trees-bushes grow right on the rocks. Apparently because they have no other options, but they want to live.

It is simply hard to believe that once upon a time, in ancient times, the island was covered with impenetrable forests and swamps.

Of course, we knew that in Cyprus, as in England, left-hand traffic. They knew, but still almost sat in the driver's seat. The only thing that stopped us was that there was one place, and there were three of us.

This is not counting other tourists who wanted to leave in the same direction. The driver, with typical Cypriot understanding and friendliness, escorted everyone to the entrance on the other side of the bus. The roads in Cyprus are good, the signs are clear.

There are many Russians in Cyprus. Therefore, almost every cafe, hotel, tour desk has a menu in Russian and Russian-speaking staff.

There are not many cities in Cyprus. We lived in Limassol (aka Lemesos, aka Leimosun) and in Paphos. We took the hotel only with breakfast, because we did not want to be attached to the hotel. Those who want to take half board or full board should remember that all drinks at lunch and dinner are NOT included in the price of the board, that is, paid. Before leaving, I was scouring forums on the topic - “Where to eat? » Reality has shown that this is not a problem at all. Along the hotels stretches a long line of cafes - shop - tavern - restaurant -souvenirs -. . and so on throughout the street.

The cafe that you liked last year may be closed, but two new ones will open instead. We chose simply - where a lot of people are sitting, we went there. And always successful. Almost all cafes offer pleasant surprises for visitors. Usually - a treat at the expense of the institution.

We had it: Free wine next time, watermelon, a real domino (the child plays and remembers Pizza Hut), 20% discount on the next visit. And one Italian restaurant brought drinks along with the bill: a fruit cocktail for a child, a very tasty coffee liqueur with cream for a lady, and local brandy. Brandy had an amazing smell and mild taste. Of course, we brought a few bottles of this drink with us : ).

In Limassol we stayed at the Mediterranean Hotel. A very nice hotel. Before the trip I read a lot of reviews - different. But we liked everything. The only drawback in my opinion is the paid Wi-Fi. Although some inexpensive cafes provide free Internet access.

Just in case, I strongly advise everyone to read the ads in the hotel lobby. We almost missed one pleasant event - the hotel management invited hotel guests for champagne. In general, they write a lot of interesting things)

We were lucky - we got the opportunity to evaluate the rest in two cities of Cyprus. The beautiful Elysium Hotel in Paphos held a promotion - all guests of the Mediterranean Hotel had the opportunity to change their holiday destination for 2 days on the same conditions. Naturally, we agreed to take advantage of such a kind offer. And they didn't regret it. The hotel is really good in my opinion. Before that, we rested a couple of times in Turkey. Stayed only 5*. But I have never seen such beauty. Service is a separate issue. The staff is impeccably polite, accurate, tactful. There is not even a hint of familiarity, characteristic of the Turks.

In the morning, breakfast was served with ice-cold Brut champagne.

Yes Yes. All Russians immediately remember this immortal phrase).

But I am sure that the management of the Elysium hotel classifies its guests exclusively as aristocrats.

Pleasantly impressed by the evening tour. We return from a walk, and we are met by a spread out bed with a neatly wrapped blanket, a white rug on the floor near the bed and a candy on the bedside table. We were pleased. True, I read a negative opinion on the forums: “It’s very disturbing when at 9 pm the servants break into the room (? ! ) to help get ready for bed. ” Firstly, he does not “break in” - but softly knocks on the door. Secondly, the problem is solved very simply: with a sign “In other time”. Although there is no free Wi-Fi here either.

For recreation, in my opinion, Paphos is more convenient - a small, compact town where everything is nearby. In the lower tourist part of the city there are hotels, a wonderful embankment with a huge number of cafes, restaurants, shops, there is also a port and berths for boats, boats and pleasure yachts and sightseeing boats.

By the way, boat trips are cheaper than in Limassol. Here is the entrance to the ancient excavations of Paphos.

Cyprus in general for connoisseurs of antiquity is just a treasure. People have lived on the island for a very long time. The oldest discovered settlement - Khirokitia - is at least 10 thousand years old. Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that here at every step there are either the remains of an ancient city-settlement, or an ancient basilica, or an ancient monastery, or an ancient fortress. Each monastery, as a rule, has its own legend. I liked most of all about the so-called Cat Monastery (St. Nicholas Monastery) on the Akrotiri peninsula. It is said that in the 4th century AD, Cyprus suffered from drought for 17 long years. As a result, a huge number of poisonous snakes divorced on the island. People began to leave the island. Then about 1000 cats were brought to Cyprus, which in a few years coped with the mission entrusted to them. After that, Cape Kargeya was named Cat's.

Now it is a nunnery, there are only 6 nuns in it, who take care of more than a hundred cats. In Cyprus, in general, cats can be found everywhere - on the streets, in hotels, in cafes, on postcards, T-shirts and souvenirs. Almost a sacred animal : ).

The purpose of currency exchange offices is completely incomprehensible, because prices are everywhere: in shops, restaurants, taxi buses in Euros (sometimes in British pounds). Perhaps there are some payments that are accepted only in Cypriot pounds, but we have not encountered such.

Cyprus is a small, compact country. Everything is close here - the distance between cities is 40-70 km. Therefore, trips on excursions do not strain. For various reasons, we only went on two sea excursions. One is fishing. We bought it right on the pier from a local businessman. I can’t say that we liked it very much - we caught a couple of small fish.

Several times something serious was clinging, but, apparently, there was something wrong with the equipment, because this serious one gnawed off the bait along with hooks and fishing line. And it was also very pitiful for the unfortunate couple of "fishermen" who went with us, whom seasickness fell down at the exit from the port and all the way they lay in a layer on the floor with a bag in their hand. Such flour for their own money!

But the second excursion - the Odyssey Safari cruise from Larnaca port - along the east coast - I personally liked it very much. I realized that I generally love boat trips. We could not see the sunken ferry "Zivania" through the glass bottom of the boat. The guide explained that the scuba divers were interfering - they stirred up the water. (: ? I really liked the swimming stop in the Blue Bay. We were told that the depth is 15 meters.

And it's boring in Protaras - there are a lot of Anglo-German pensioners. In the evenings, they either sit silently or sing karaoke. But when the British begin to sing, the Russians begin to drink - because it is impossible to bear it on a sober head). Although, I think they drink anyway, maybe not that much.

And we also went on a self-organized excursion to the Four seasons hotel - it was right next to the Mediterranean. Just go for a walk. The hotel is very beautiful, a lot of greenery, it was obvious that it was expensive. We walk and walk - beauty is everywhere. And then Deniska needed a toilet. I once heard that the level of an institution can be determined by the cleanliness and beauty of a public toilet. We decided to check.

I go in - a wall of onyx, illuminated from the back, stands straight. Beauties!

There are live orchids in vases on the tabletop, neatly folded real hand towels, designer waterfall faucets and Villeroy & Boch sanitary ware, … Light music and a pleasant aroma completed the impression. I like it!

Most of all, among all this luxury and splendor, I was struck by a single inscription in Russian: "ELECTRIC SHIELD". Just a cry from the heart - at least don't go there ! ! !

Yes, there are more and more Russians in Cyprus ... .
